Course requirements
  • A working knowledge of lighting basics is required. You should already understand what DMX is, what a channel and a DMX address are, how a universe works, and how fixtures are patched and addressed in principle. This course teaches you to operate the console. It does not teach you lighting from scratch. If those terms are unfamiliar, start with an introductory lighting course first.
  • Familiarity with common fixture types such as dimmers, LED wash lights and moving heads, and a general idea of their attributes (intensity, pan/tilt, colour, gobo, etc.).
  • No prior console experience needed. You don't need to have operated a Hybrid+ LX console, or any other desk beforehand. The course starts at the front panel and builds from there.
  • Access to a Hybrid+ LX console (LX1, LX2, or LXT1), or the offline software. You'll get far more out of this by following along and pressing the buttons yourself than by only watching.
  • At least one DMX fixture to practise on. A moving head or LED wash is ideal since it gives you real attributes to work with.
  • A willingness to make a mess and clear it. Most of this course is muscle memory. Repeat the exercises until the button presses stop needing thought.
Intended audience

This course is for anyone who wants to learn to use the Hybrid+ LX consoles properly, whether you're about to work on one, already have one in front of you or want the skill on your CV before the next gig comes up.

That includes:

  • Lighting operators moving onto a Hybrid+ LX console from another desk and who want to get up to speed quickly
  • Technicians and stage crew who currently run shows off presets and want to program their own looks from scratch
  • Venue and church tech teams responsible for a house rig who need to get real value out of their Hybrid+ LX consoles
  • Freelance and touring techs adding another console to the list of desks they can walk up to and operate
  • Students and newcomers to lighting who understand the fundamentals and are ready to learn a real console
  • AV and event companies who want to train their staff to a consistent standard on their Hybrid+ LX inventory

If you understand lighting basics and want to sit behind a Hybrid+ LX1, LX2, or LXT1 lighting console and program a show with confidence, this course is for you!

This course takes you from unboxing to showtime on the Hybrid+ LX Console range: the Hybrid+ LX1, Hybrid+ LX2, and Hybrid+ LXT1. All three share the same operating system and workflow, so everything you learn here applies to whichever desk you’re sitting behind. The course is built around the way you actually work in a venue: patch the rig, build your looks, store them and run them back cleanly under pressure.

You’ll start with the physical console including the touchscreen, playback area, encoders, and program control section so you know where everything lives before you touch a fixture. From there you’ll build and edit fixture libraries, patch and address your rig, and organise it into groups that make selection fast.

The heart of the course is building looks: adjusting fixture attributes, creating and recalling palettes, and applying curves, fan and shape effects to bring movement and dynamics into your rig. You’ll then store that work as scenes and chases, learn how to edit and re-time them, and record complete shows you can play back and refine.

By the end you’ll have a solid, practical command of the console, enough to walk into any venue, patch an unfamiliar rig, and program a show from scratch.

What you’ll be able to do by the end:

    • Navigate every area of the Hybrid LX front and rear panel with confidence
    • Create, edit and manage fixture libraries and patch a full rig
    • Build fixture groups and palettes for fast and repeatable programming
    • Adjust fixture attributes and control your rig directly
    • Apply shapes, curves and fan effects to create movement and dynamics
    • Store, edit and play back scenes and chases with proper timing and fades
    • Record, edit and run complete shows
    • Manage show files and console setup
    Is this course really free?
Yes, completely. There's no payment, no trial period and no hidden upgrade. Enrol and you get access to every video and text lesson.
    Who is this course for?
Anyone who owns, operates or is about to start using a Hybrid LX lighting console. It suits complete beginners as well as operators coming from other consoles who want to learn how the Hybrid LX does things.
Do I need to have the console in front of me?
It's recommended but not required. You'll learn faster if you can follow along on the console, but the video and text lessons stand on their own and can be used as a reference later.
    What does the course cover?
Console layout, fixture libraries and patching, fixture control, groups and palettes, curves, fans and shapes, scenes and chases, show recording and timecode, setup and network settings, RDM, key frames, pixel mapping, LayoutView, and a full button function reference. It finishes with a troubleshooting and FAQ section.
Which Hybrid LX models does it apply to?
The course applies to the Hybrid+ LX range. Operation is the same across models; the main differences are the number of DMX outputs and Art-Net universes, which are noted where relevant.
